DIAMONDS

The word diamond comes from the Greek word ‘adamao’ which means invincible, signalling to the strength of the stone. Diamonds were first discovered and mined in India with early descriptions dating back to the 4th century BC.

Every diamond, like a human fingerprint, has certain distinguishing characteristics that are defined under the 4Cs - Colour, Clarity, Cut and Carat. These are the universally accepted global standards for assessing the quality of a diamond.

01

Color

The colour of a diamond ranges from exceptional white to tinted colour. A diamond is considered colourless if it is D, E or F grade and rare white to white it it is G or H grade. Diamonds start to appear  yellow if the colour grade is lower than J. At Manoharlal Jewellers, we use diamonds that range from D to H colour.

02

Clarity

The clarity of a diamond refers to the presence or absence of tiny inclusions or birthmarks within the diamond. This is determined by the number, size, nature, location and relief of the internal imperfections. At Manoharlal Jewellers, we use IF, VVF and VVS diamonds.

03

Cut

The cut of a diamond is the measure of how the diamond’s facets interact with light. It is the most important characteristic that affects the brilliance and sparkle of the diamond.

04

Carat

The carat of a diamond is a metric defined by 200 milligrams. Each carat is further divided into 100 ‘points’. This allows a very precise measurement to the hundredth decimal place of diamond weight.

How to care for your diamond

A diamond sparkles because of the way light passes through it. Good care of a diamond ensures that your jewellery does not lose its sparkle for years to come.

Clean your diamonds with warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush to refresh the lustre.

Store your pieces with care. Diamonds can scratch each other if rubbed together. Keep each piece individually to avoid contact.

Keep getting your pieces inspected periodically to ensure that the prongs that hold the gemstone are sturdy.
